Yesterday we were bored. Terribly bored. Until someone had the idea to check out MySpace for their members’ current in-stuff. A few minutes later, we added some more images to the “Mix with preset images”-tool. Folks, now you can finally create those neat “glittering” graphics using Phixr. These seem to be extremely popular among the MySpace crowd.

While we were at it, we also added a “mode”-selector to both of the “Mix” tools. The different modes (not every one looks good in all situations) allow a bunch of new effects. Here’s one using “Dodge” mode.

And here’s another one. The same image mixed twice, each time using a different “Copy XXX channel” mode:

Erm, now there’s one more thing. We accidently  dumped the “Position”-selector in the “Mix with other Photo” tool. This must have happened shortly before the relaunch. Well, long story short, it’s back. Sorrrry.

Finally, we have a 中文(简体) version of Phixr in the pipeline. The translation is in progress.

Phixr relaunch on Oct 1 went smooth, we expected more troubles from switching IP and software at the same time.  Just returned from the party, tired and exhausted. After weeks of 24/7 coding, we really need a break. We hope the folks out there like the results.

Welcome to our new outfit! Well, we are sure you noticed. Phixr looks different. We’ve worked hard, tortured a reasonably large crowd with amber fluids and chips for an extensive period of time in order to provide us with the feedback we wanted to hear… and now: Here it is. Phixr’s new, shiny clothes. What’s not to like?

Other news include

• new “comic” and “printed comic” special effects (see demo image);
• new “comic border” in the border tool (see demo image);
• the “mix with preset image” tool now includes not only patterns, but also objects (like a heart, a light bulb, a party hat, etc) that can be inserted into your image. Also, this tool now uses the selection.
• automatic update of the selection: if you move or otherwise change it, any tool window using the selection will automatically update.
• the “lomo effect” is now much faster;
• bugfixes in speech bubble (yes, again). We apologize for eventual inconveniences (yes, again).
• better handling in tool windows, and much more.

Under the hood, the news are mainly that we are running on a new server farm. Twice as many CPUs, twice the memory. That should do for a while… Happy phixing, dudes

Phixr got a few new features during the last few days:

• Phixr now supports uploading photos to Twitter! You can tweet directly from inside Phixr now.
• Phixr now has a new Facebook entry page. You can choose the photo to edit directly from within Facebook, without the cumbersome step of authorizing Phixr first.
• Phixr has a new way to transfer photos from Photobucket and we now also support group albums.
• We improved SmugMug support. This is much faster now.
• Photo rotation is improved. You can now rotate photos of any size. However, larger photos will be clipped to the actual photo area, no background added.
• You can now print your photo on your local printer.
• Bugfixes in speech bubble, lomo and round corners tools. We apologize for eventual inconveniences.

Want your face on a mug? Or your favorite logo on a bag? Or your girlfriend’s face on your mouse pad? Phixr makes this really simple now. We are now associated with Zazzle(r), a company that applies photos on all kinds of merchandise. Phixr can automatically transfer your photo and help you design your very own design. See for yourself!

You can now adjust the color temperature using the “brightness, contrast, hue”-tool.

Apart from server problems on the weekend (which were beyond our scope of influence), we noticed an obviously long-standing problem regarding the email-in-feature. Some of the photos received by e-mail were uploaded but displayed as a lock. This is fixed now, we apologize.

Phixr now lets you grow the canvas. This means that you can “resize” your photo, without scaling it, to a size of your choice. The new area is filled with a color of your choice. You can use this, for instance, for placing text below the image.

The Webshots people are really slow. We still haven’t got our “partner key”.

Now, let’s see. Been a while… Anyway, despite or efforts currently being focussed on a different project, we can happily announce that we fulfilled some of your wishes. One of those was adding support for Facebook. Voila, there you go. (Did anyone actually ever use Costco? We kicked it out, if anyone wonders.)

The most prominent change happened on the interface side though. Hope you folks like it… Cu!
