b&w day

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Last week we (again) fell in love with b&w photography. Consequently, today’s update is b&w all over:

  • Zoom blur can fade out color towards the corners (along with fading into black);
  • there is a new b&w vignette (along with a blurred one) in Camera & Lens tools;
  • all objects in the Decorate tool can be desaturated (ie made b&w);
  • the b&w tool inside Color tools now supports three ways of desaturating a photo;
  • in Camera & Lens tools, the masks’ background can now not only be monotonized, but also desaturated. Also, we added two new masks (circles, one blurred, one sharp).

On the blablatechbabble front, we made phixr once more faster. This time, we’ll simply save you the details.

PS: If you find bugs in Phixr, we’d be grateful if you posted them here or on our Facebook page. Thanks!

June news

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

G’day!

Yes, it has been a bit quiet here recently as you might have noticed.

No, we have not spent the last 7 weeks on the beach.

In fact, we have been very busy working on Phixr and changed a lot of stuff “under the hood” to make Phixr faster and better. But most of that stuff isn’t blog material really (or is anyone interested in the fact that we reduced database access by 25%?).

A few of the presentable changes of the last weeks include:

  • Text with transparency and shadows: The “Add text” tool got a few new features. You can now add shadows to your text and select a level of transparency for your text:

  • 2-colored vignette: Another nice effect is the new vignette. It uses two colors and can make an awesome photo even more awesome:

  • Lots of new greeting cards: Phixr has now more than 30 greeting card templates for various occasions:

  • Lots of new decorations: Most of them are holiday-specific and therefore only accessible around these holidays (holders of permanent accounts can make them visible anytime):

  • Last, but not least: Phixr can now handle six photos at a time, instead of three.

That’s a wrap. Have fun folks!

Phixr, 2010, and some new features

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Today’s list of news is rather long:

  • The old “sepia” tool changed into a generic “color effects” tool. The “black and white“, “invert” and “equalize” tools have been integrated here now, and we added a few new ones such as duo tone, triple tone, heatmap, cross process (xpro), neon, infrared. Also, you can now change the photo’s contrast and brightness on-the-fly, and reduce the effect’s impact by changing its opacity (ie fading it into the original photo).
  • The old “lomo” tool was changed into a generic “camera effects” tool. Apart from lomography, Phixr can now simulate el-cheapo cameras as the chinese Holga, add a vignette effect and imitate a night vision device. This tool also now allows reducing the effect’s impact by changing its opacity (ie fading it into the original photo).
  • The “special effects” tool now offers 10 presets for each effect for fine-tuning, and features the opacity slider to blend in the original image (exactly like the color effects and camera effects tools).
  • The old “blur” tool got some new companions, such as a soften tool and an effect invented by Michael Orton.
  • The “special effects”, “blur”, “sharpen” and “despeckle” tools have new preview feature: Click into the right thumbnail and see left a part of the photo in its original size as it would look after applying the respective effect.
  • Rather embarrassing, but anyhow: We fixed a bug in the “add border” tool (the golden frame didn’t actually work), and we finally and once and for all fixed the contrast and brightness sliders (which sometimes didn’t do what they were supposed to do.)

We will deal with the new effects in upcoming blog post. Here a just a few random samples:
